These terms apply when you book a polygraph examination with Sheffield Lie Detector Test, of 1 Concourse Way, Sheffield, S1 2BJ. By booking, you agree to them. You will also be asked to complete and sign our client booking document before the examination, which repeats these terms in full.
A polygraph examination is entirely voluntary. The person being examined must give informed written consent before the examination begins and may withdraw that consent and stop the examination at any point, without giving a reason.
We will not carry out an examination where it appears to us that the examinee has been coerced, threatened or misled into attending. If that becomes apparent on the day, we will end the appointment and all fees paid are retained. The same applies to abuse, aggression or threatening behaviour towards the examiner, which will end the examination immediately.
We will carry out the examination with reasonable care and skill, in accordance with accepted professional practice, and give you our honest professional opinion.
We do not guarantee that any examination will produce a conclusive result. Inconclusive outcomes occur and are a legitimate result. We do not claim that polygraph examinations are infallible, and we make no claim as to any specific accuracy rate other than as stated on our FAQ page with its source.
Polygraph results are not accepted as evidence in the criminal or family courts in England and Wales. You should not book an examination on the assumption that the result can be used in legal proceedings.
You must tell us, before the appointment, about any medical condition, medication, pregnancy or other circumstance that may affect fitness to be tested, and about the examinee’s age. We may decline to carry out an examination if, in our professional judgement, a valid examination is not possible. Where you have told us everything relevant in advance and we still decline, your booking fee is transferred or refunded — we do not keep a fee for a decision that was ours to make on information you gave us honestly.
The examinee must be 18 or over and must bring a valid passport or driving licence. Identification is mandatory and the examination cannot begin without it. Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment time; unreasonable lateness may mean the examination cannot go ahead.
A non-refundable booking fee of £150 per examinee secures the appointment. The full cleared balance must reach us at least 48 hours before the examination; the appointment is not confirmed until it has. If you book within 24 hours of the examination time, the full amount must be paid before the booking is confirmed and before the examination can begin. The balance may be paid by bank transfer, or by card through the secure payment link sent in the reminder email. You may also pay in full at the time of booking. Card payments are processed by Stripe; we do not store your card details.
In short: 48 hours’ notice to move or cancel, and the £150-per-examinee booking fee is non-refundable. Full detail on our cancellation policy page.
We keep your examination confidential and release the report only to you, or to anyone you instruct us in writing to send it to. We may disclose information where we are required to do so by law, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to prevent serious harm to a person.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited, and nothing here affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 to a service carried out with reasonable care and skill.
We are not responsible for failure or delay caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control — including acts of God, fire or explosion, equipment failure, industrial action, public unrest, war, or road closures and police procedures. If that happens we will contact you as soon as we reasonably can and offer you a new appointment or a refund.
If you are unhappy with any part of our service, contact us at [email protected] and we will respond within 24 hours. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
