This website is operated by Sheffield Lie Detector Test (“we”, “us”), of 1 Concourse Way, Sheffield, S1 2BJ. We are the data controller for the personal information described below. You can contact us at [email protected] or 07597 677860.
When you enquire: your name, email address, phone number, your preferred method of reply, which service you are asking about, and anything you choose to write in the message box.
When you book: the above, plus the date and time of your appointment and the answers you give in the pre-test questionnaire.
When you pay: we do not see or store your card details. Payments are handled by Stripe, who send us confirmation that a payment succeeded together with the amount and a reference.
During an examination: the questions asked, the physiological recordings, the examiner’s analysis and the resulting report.
Some of what we hold is “special category” data under Article 9 of the UK GDPR — health information you give us about fitness to be tested and any medication you take, and, depending on the examination, information concerning your sex life or sexual orientation.
This data has extra protection in law. We collect as little of it as we can, we do not ask for detail we do not need to run the examination, and access is limited to the examiner.
Our lawful bases. For arranging and carrying out your examination, and for taking payment, we rely on performance of a contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)), and on our legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)) for records we are required to keep, such as accounting records. For the special category data described above we rely on your explicit consent under Article 9(2)(a), which you give in writing before the examination begins. The examination is voluntary: you may withdraw that consent, or stop the examination, at any point, and you can do so by contacting us using the details at the top of this page. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.
If we ever contact you for marketing, that is separate and rests on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
We use your information to answer your enquiry, arrange and carry out your appointment, produce and send your report, take payment, and keep the records we are required to keep.
Examination results reports are retained for one year, which is the period required by the American Polygraph Association. Polygraph charts, video and audio recordings are deleted once you have received your official result, unless you authorise us in writing to keep them on file for one year — for example where they may be needed for legal or court proceedings. Enquiries that do not lead to a booking — including contact form messages and the emails that follow them — are deleted after 12 months. Website server logs are kept for 30 days. Accounting and payment records are kept for six years, which is the period HMRC requires.
We do not sell your data and we do not share it for marketing.
We use the following processors, who handle data on our behalf: Amazon Web Services, who host this website in their London (eu-west-2) region in the United Kingdom; Zoho Mail (Zoho Corporation), whose EU data centre delivers and stores our email; Cloudflare, who provide DNS for our domain; and Stripe, who process card payments. Appointment details are stored in our own database on our own server by the LatePoint booking software — they are not sent to a third party. That is the complete list of third parties who handle your data for us.
We will not discuss your examination with your partner, your family, your employer or anyone else unless you have told us in writing to do so, or unless we are required to disclose it by law or to prevent serious harm.
This site uses only the cookies it needs to work, plus any you consent to through our cookie banner. Fonts are hosted on our own server, so loading a page does not send your details to Google. The map on our contact page is not loaded at all until you press the button to load it, because loading it would send your IP address to Google.
See our cookie policy for the detail.
You have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have inaccurate information corrected, to ask us to delete information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to ask us to transfer your data elsewhere. Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time.
To exercise any of these, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
This website and its booking system run on servers hosted by Amazon Web Services in the United Kingdom (London region); your data is not transferred outside the UK by this website. Traffic between your browser and this site is encrypted using TLS. Access to the website’s administration area is limited to named accounts, protected by individual passwords, with repeated failed login attempts blocked automatically, and file editing through the browser is disabled. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never reach this website or our servers. Backups are taken regularly and kept in the United Kingdom.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you and the Information Commissioner’s Office without delay if a breach affects your rights.

No pressure and no judgement. Ask a question first, or book a test when you are ready. Everything you tell us stays between us.
